Which Smartphone to choose in order to get the most out of pleasure and spend as little money as possible? On what parameters to pay attention? We are like you to understand and make the right decision.
The choice of Smartphone was an easy process only in the middle of two thousand. When there were, roughly speaking, two competing platforms: Windows Mobile and Symbian. If you want a touch-sensitive device – you take something at first, you want a button with a good camera – on the second one.
Now, in recent years, to choose a suitable model is somewhat more complicated. A lot of new brands have appeared, there are a lot of cheap devices (whether they are high-quality ones, is it worth buying or better saving further?), But there are a lot of smart phones with indecently high prices.
And nevertheless smart phones are quite logically divided into certain categories, within which some typical basic possibilities are offered. These categories are not always clearly visible, especially if you are not interested in the topic of smart phones deeply, so we decided to help the readers and wrote this material manual.
For a memo, it is too long, for a dissertation (a joke) – too short. But the fact is that after reading the article you will most likely find answers to many questions related to choosing a Smartphone in 2018.
Which brand to choose?
In the process of answering this question, one can gather information for a doctoral dissertation in the field of philosophy (and this is no longer a joke). Some people consider the brand to be the main criterion in choosing a technique, while others look at characteristics and price, others on something else. And yet: the presence of a logo on the body can either guarantee or not guarantee certain properties of the product.
Option number 1: A-brand.
This should be understood by Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, Apple, Sony, Huawei and so on – in a word, a large international company. Is it worth overpaying for this very a-brand? Let’s put it this way: some people think that the logo on the case carries an exclusively image “charge”. But all the rest of the smart phones of large companies is the same as that of less eminent business colleagues.
But not everything is so simple. The scale of business of large companies is such that they are able a) to produce some new technologies themselves and b) to buy the best and most modern components at low prices. This gives some advantages, including not quite obvious for a non-immersed observer. Typical consequences of these features are high-quality (really high-quality!) Cameras and economical screens. Yes, a cheap device can also have a “13 megapixel camera and a Full HD screen”, but in fact the A-brand smartphone will take better pictures, and its display will, because of its economy, extend the working time, for example, by 20%. Although the quality of the picture, and the parameters of this screen will be exactly the same as a cheaper smartphone.
(It’s clear that the level of technology and capabilities of Samsung and, for example, Xiaomi is completely different: the first company overtakes the second one for several years. And yet we decided to include in this material all more or less large companies to the category “A” – the difference between they are much less than between them and the same brands of the category “B”, which will be discussed below.)
Finally, it is worth paying attention to the issue of marriage: it is not large among large companies, from 1 to 5 percent. So the probability of running into a faulty device is not that high.
A-devices also have some disadvantages. And they are manifested mainly in the budget segment. The problem is that due to the need to comply with the quality standards adopted in this or that company (this includes comprehensive testing of products) it is very difficult for A brands to create a competitive budget smart phone. So the buyer of the model of the company of class “A” at the price of up to 10 thousand rubles, as a rule, receives two advantages – quality and the same image charge. But the characteristics should be forgotten: the Smartphone will be inferior in its capabilities to models of B-brands.
Option number 2: B-brand.
This category can include both the products of local Russian companies, and “China of the second echelon” (Leagoo, Doogee, HomTom, Oukitel – that’s all).
The business model of Russian smart phone brands is as follows: they order the production of smart phones in Chinese factories, control this process and then are responsible for servicing and selling devices in Russia. As a rule, there are no special mega-technologies in such smart phones. Cameras are photographed mediocrely, and the battery life can be relatively small even if the battery in the smart phone is 4000-5000 mAh. Simply because Russian customers could not get the Chinese to modify the firmware in such a way as to correct the bugs related to the energy consumption. On the other hand, the history knows and a lot of decent smart phones of domestic brands, which have no serious problems with quality and reliability.
As for small Chinese brands of the “B” category, the situation with them is very similar – with the only difference being that their Russians do not control. This results, for example, in strange jambs with the translation of the Android interface into Russian, and also – almost always – with problems in the event of a breakdown. Because these devices are most often bought on AliExpress, and they are not guaranteed.
In general, the minuses were sorted out: the B-brand smartphone is actually a cat in a poke. Nevertheless, there is a very high probability of buying an adequate device. Especially if it is a model of a USA brand bought in USA – in which case you will have the opportunity to repair it under a guarantee, and if you do not want to change or repair it, complain to some Bureau of Consumer Protection.
The advantages of B-brand smartphones are the characteristics. Roughly speaking, they offer much more for less money. This illustrates our material very well about inexpensive frameless smartphones: two models of A-brands costing more than 10 thousand rubles do not have a fingerprint scanner, and in a pair of devices of the “B” category for 7-8 thousand rubles this component is.
The level of rejection of such devices, however, is noticeably higher than that of the “A” models, and sometimes reaches 15%. Plus, in general, the quality is unstable: one batch may turn out to be almost flawless, but smartphones from the other can be almost completely malfunctioning.
